Academic copy editing · Human, never AI
Your researchdeserves to be understood.
Your reviewers should be reading your research, not your English. I'm Andrew Rice — a fellow academic at a Canadian university, a published author, and a native English speaker. I work one-on-one with non-native-speaking researchers to make every manuscript clear, precise, and publication-ready, with your voice intact.

A fellow academic
in your corner
I'm a working academic at a Canadian university, a published author, and a native English speaker. I know first-hand what reviewers look for and how much is riding on every submission — because I write, submit, and publish my own research too.
Alongside my own work, I've spent years as an editor, refining manuscripts across a wide range of disciplines — from environmental science and medicine to economics and engineering. I specialise in helping non-native English-speaking researchers present their work clearly and professionally, so your reviewers see the quality of your research, not the rough edges of the English.
I believe in working closely with authors to preserve and enhance your voice, never to override it. The result should still sound like you — only sharper.
Every edit is done by me, personally. I never use AI tools.
— Andrew Rice, Academic Copy Editor
On paying after delivery: I believe in earning your trust. That's why you only pay once you're completely satisfied with the final edit.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know before you send your manuscript.
Never. Every edit is done by me personally, by hand. AI tools routinely flatten an author's voice, introduce subtle errors, and miss the nuance of academic argument. You are paying for a human expert who reads and understands your work, not a machine.
Only after the work is delivered and you're satisfied with it. I'll confirm the scope and price upfront, complete the edit, and you pay once you're happy with the final result.
Tell me what isn't working and I'll revise it. My goal is for you to feel completely confident submitting your manuscript. If I can't get it to a standard you're happy with, you're covered by my money-back guarantee.
If your paper is rejected specifically because of the quality of the English, I'll give you a full refund. I stand behind my work: a clean, publication-ready manuscript is exactly what you're paying for.
I work primarily in Microsoft Word (.doc / .docx), which is the standard for tracked-changes editing. If you have a manuscript in another format such as LaTeX or PDF, email me and we'll find the best way to work together.
All edits are delivered using Word's Track Changes, so you can see every correction and accept or reject each one. I'll also leave comments where a sentence needs your input or where I've made a judgment call, so nothing changes without your awareness.
No. My job is to preserve and enhance your voice, not replace it. I correct and clarify so that your meaning comes through cleanly in natural English. The writing should still sound like you, only sharper and more confident.
Absolutely, and I encourage it. With the Comprehensive tier in particular, expect a friendly back-and-forth by email or video call. You'll always be working directly with me, never through an account manager or a queue.
Yes. Many journals appreciate or require confirmation that a manuscript has been professionally edited by a native English speaker. On request, I'll provide a certificate of editing you can include with your submission.
I'm happy to discuss pricing for first-time authors, returning clients, and referrals. If you're sending several papers or recommending a colleague, get in touch and we'll work something out.
